Make the basis visible.
Room information, selected requirements, and engineering assumptions belong alongside the result. A number is useful when its basis can be understood.
Who we are / The Mech Shed
We’re two mechanical engineers specializing in HVAC design for healthcare and pharmaceutical projects. Precision is essential to what we do—and it is the starting point for everything we build.
Why we built it
Excel is part of everyday engineering. But as projects grow, the sheets become cumbersome: more rooms, more takeoffs, more calculation branches, and more information to keep consistent.
We needed a streamlined way to handle multiple takeoffs across a project, compare requirements, and carry the results into documentation without repeatedly rebuilding the same workflow.
The Mech Shed grew out of that need. It brings the inputs, calculation basis, and results together so the work is easier to organize and review.
What guides us
Room information, selected requirements, and engineering assumptions belong alongside the result. A number is useful when its basis can be understood.
Repeated calculations should follow a consistent process. Our goal is to make room-by-room work easier to manage across a project.
Codes and standards evolve. We’re building around explicit editions and calculation assumptions to support review against the requirements that apply to each project.
Who it’s for
The Mech Shed is for mechanical engineers and HVAC designers who need to organize project takeoffs, compare airflow requirements, and prepare clear calculation documentation.
Our experience comes from healthcare and pharmaceutical work, where precision and traceable decisions are central to the design process. Those same priorities shape tools for everyday mechanical design.
Practical tools, grounded in the work we do.
